Zaccagnini Auction Result!

Today an amazing collection of Zaccagnini figures was auction, including a King of Hearts!  The result of the auction were mixed, but the king did especially well, realizing 6x his original high estimate.  Congratulations to the winner, he is indeed exceptionally rare.

Yowza! Cookie Cutters A-Go-Go

Today a complete set of Domar cookie cutters sold for almost $700.  Very nice indeed.

Original Pan Background Auction Result

On Friday December 19th, 2014, Profiles in History held a major animation art auction in conjunction with the Van Eaton Gallery.  In it this beautiful pan background was sold for a whopping $65,000.00 + buyer's premium, totaling $81,250.00.

According to the auction listing:

In the feature, the camera pans across this spectacular master background of house and grounds, with a view of gardens, flowering forest beyond and incredible starry sky. Disney Studio created the pan cel for exhibition purposes. This set of originals was included in The Art of Animation exhibits shown in America, Europe and Japan in the 1950s into the early 1960s. The Art of Animation was the last major touring exhibition of Disney Studio art sponsored by the Disney Company. This artwork is also published on page 55 of The Art and Flair of Mary Blair book by John Canemaker.

While the auction says that the cel was created by the studio, one wonders why they got her legs wrong?

The auction had hundreds of amazing items, including many Alice cels, paintings and drawings.  The full catalog can be viewed here and here.

Auction House Mis-Attribution of David Hall

I don't normally do things like this, but this is bugging me. RR Auctions is having an animation auction that closes tonight. One particular lot is very clearly mis-attributed, the claim is that the lot listed is David Hall, and art by him is very sought after. I've contacted them about it and they agree and said they'd change the listing "...appreciate your email and we have decided to change the lot details to state that it is not a David Hall as you have stated." They haven't. By not changing the listing after they'e been alerted to the error and agreed, they are now actively deceiving their bidders. I don't know how else to proceed, so I thought I'd see if leveraging the social networks might get them to fix the listing before it is too late. It may already be too late.

Update:  The item has been withdrawn.  Go me.

New Listings on eBay

This weekend eBay has been having a free listing promotion, so I"m pulling out all the stops and listing a bunch of rare stuff!  Like a complete marionette theater set, one of only three known complete sets - to my knowledge at least.  Don't miss your chance.

New Alice Listings on eBay - Gotta Pay for that LA Trip ;-)

So now that I'm back in the real world, free from hot babes in superhero costumes, time to pay for the fun trip we all just had.  I'm in the process of posting the remainder of my Alice pin collection, having decided that there is absolutely no way I could ever keep up with it, and relegating last of my non-vintage Alice collection to other, more appreciative collectors.  Get 'em while they're hot!

Bon Voyage Computer Girl - Cheshire Cat Scotland Pin

Today Computer Girl heads of to Bonnie Scotland for a year-long graduate program at the University of Glasgow. To commemorate this auspicious event, I present to you this Disney Auction Limited Edition pin of the Cheshire Cat in full Scots regalia, complete with bagpipe.

This was part of a set of LE pins that Disney Auctions put out in 2004 called Cheshire Cat World Tour, in an edition of 100.  A few years ago we made the decision to only collect vintage items and got rid of most of the modern Alice stuff.  A vast majority of the pins did not make the cut, this being one.  This past summer Computer Girl has been selling the deleted pin collection, she got $56 each for the two examples we had of this pin, quite good considering I only paid $18.  Go Computer Girl!

Profiles in History / Van Eaton Auction - Yowza!

Well, Father's Day is rapidly approaching and on my personal wishlist is this FANTASTIC Mary Blair piece in the upcoming PiH auction (get the catalog here.)  Of course, there are lots and lots and LOTS of fantastic items in this two day auction, would that I were independently wealthy.  sigh.

Talk about impressive!  Hake's Americana just got $12,776.50 for a complete set as described in this series of posts.  Thank goodness I already have them!
