Happy Halloween!

Or as I prefer to say, Happy Birthday to me!  That's right, today is not only Halloween, but also my birthday.  And what better way to celebrate both than with cool Alice Halloween garments!  Over the years there have been not one, but two Alice themed Halloween scrub tops!  The medical industry gets all the cool clothes.

What's great about these, is that you can generally find them on eBay for pretty cheap, and you can either wear them as is, or in my case, have them made into cool Hawaiian shirts!  Happy Birthday indeed!

Happy Halloween!

This is a repost from the first year of the blog, but is one of my favorite things of all time because it combines my birthday and Alice.
--
The first time I saw this I just about died. This piece of Alice ephemera has me written all over it. You see, my birthday is today, Halloween, and what better gift for me than an obscure piece of vintage Alice paper with a Halloween theme.

What this is, is a newspaper supplement from 1950 (nearly a full year before the film's release) called Pictorial Review, dated October 29th, 1950. Pictorial review is one of several newspaper supplements of the time that appeared in (usually) the Sunday paper. These kind of supplements still exist today, but I don't think this particular one does.

I'd love to find the original art on this...perhaps for my birthday next year.

Happy Halloween! Playthings Advertisement for Alice Costumes by Ben Cooper

Happy Halloween to all, and Happy Birthday to me!  Tis the season for costumes, and in 1951 the king of costumes was Ben Cooper.  Wouldn't you know it, they made costumes based on Alice, and were pushing them hard months before the film was released, and even more months before Halloween.
This ad comes from the greatest of all toy industry magazines Playthings, and features bright red printing for the Alice in Wonderland masquerade costumes to be released by Ben Cooper.  It's just too bad there isn't any art of Alice and company in this ad, but there is a stock image of Donald, so that's something.
This ad was published in the March issue of Playthings, the Toy Fair issue.  As with all other Playthings issues from the 1930s through the mid/late 1950s, it features a Disney cover, and this cover features Mickey dancing about with the Mad Hatter and March Hare, welcoming all to the 1951 Toy Fair.  This particular issue is chock full of Alice stuff, but those pages are for other posts.  Save some candy for me!
