Happy Birthday Alice

Today is a very important day for Alice in Wonderland. Today is the 146th anniversary of the original telling of the story by the Rev. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson to the Liddell girls (Lorena, Alice and Edith) in 1862, and the 143rd anniversary of the first published version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in 1865.

In honor of this auspicious day, I thought I'd post a book (seems only fitting). This is Whitman 2140, featuring the original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland text, illustrations by Linda Card (not Tenniel), and dust jacket by Walt Disney Studios. The book itself is really common, as it was in print for a number of years before and after the film was released with a variety of different dust jackets. The Disney jacket is very uncommon.

I'm sure most of the collectors out there will have a story about a particular item that they obsessed over; this is one of my objects of obsession. I spent years trying to locate ANY copy as I was not even sure it existed. Once I did find a copy, I then spent the next couple of DECADES trying to find the perfect copy. Problem was, I could never locate my previous 'best' copy to compare to when I found another, so I ended up with a bunch of these - rare though it is. *sigh*

This item is available in the Wonderland Bazaar.
