The Final Four Goebel Figures - DIS 107 Tweedledee & Tweedledum Ashtray

Second of the Final Four, DIS 107.

As with both DIS 106 and DIS 108, this is just the DIS 65 figure on the generic ashtray base.  While I understand that smoking was extremely prevalent at the time, I fail to see the need for so many different ashtrays, and especially this one.  With all the other ashtrays in this set, the character is a smoker, but no so with these two.  Nit picky to be sure, but just sayin'

The Final Four Goebel Figures - DIS 108 Dodo Ashtray

The first of the Final Four is DIS 108, the Dodo ashtray.

As with the previously posted DIS 106, this is merely the Dodo figure from DIS 66 applied to a standard ashtray base.  This same base was used on many different ashtrays in the Goebel line.  Gotta love the 1950s when everybody smoked, when a Disney-themed ashtray was a good idea.

Goebel DIS 106 - Walrus Ashtray Discovered!

At long last I have acquired one of the Goebel ashtrays! DIS 106 is the Walrus ashtray based on figure DIS 63.

This completes my set of five walrus figures made by Goebel in the Alice in Wonderland series. See my previous post on this figure for more details.

Goebel DIS 108 - Dodo Ashtray

Ok, so I know the Dodo is one of three characters in Alice in Wonderland that smokes, but does he really need two ashtrays? DIS 108 is the SECOND Dodo ashtray, this one based on the DIS 66 figure.

Goebel DIS 106 - Walrus Ashtray

The next three items are the remaining ashtrays, beginning with DIS 106, the fourth Walrus piece in the set. This consists of a standard ashtray dish - that appears to have been used for a number of different ashtrays in the Disney series - with the DIS 63 figure applied. TOMART's description for this item is incorrect as it refers to it as DIS 68 as an ashtray. DIS 68 is a Bambi wallpocket.

Goebel DIS 71 - Dodo Ashtray

In 1952 Goebel extended the line of Alice in Wonderland figures to include another 14 items in total. This, DIS 71, the Dodo ashtray was the first of these new 1952 figures. This image is from an original catalog page that shows the entire Alice line (save the decanter). TOMART says "dressed bird with pipe as ashtray".

This ashtray is the only one of the 4 ashtrays to be completely figural in nature. In this way it is similar to a more common ashtray, DIS 8, the Thumper figural ashtray. The remainder of the Alice ashtrays are merely standard ashtray dishes with figures from the 1951 series attached.

I've never actually seen ANY of the Alice ashtrays, although I do hope to someday, as odd as the thought of a Disney ashtray is...although as smoking characters go, this one is appropriate as he does have a pipe, which is his inspiration for a 'more energetic remedy'.
